Did you Know...

Results of the Communities That Care survey given to all students in grades 6-12 in Genesee County in 2008 indicate that:

  • 27.4 percent of 12th graders admit to binge drinking (five or more drinks at one time)
  • 31.6 percent of 10th graders and 13.9 percent of 8th graders used alcohol in the past 30 days
  • 10 percent of 9th graders and 15.5 percent of 11th graders used marijuana in the past 30 days
  • 13 percent of 11th graders smoked cigarettes in the past 30 days

That means that 72.6 percent of 12th graders AREN'T binge drinking, 68.4 percent of 10th graders and 86.1 percent of 8th graders DON' T use alcohol, 90 percent of 9th graders and 84.5 percent of 11th graders HAVEN'T used marijuana in the past 30 days and 87 percent of 11th graders DON'T smoke cigarettes. This is the majority - these are the cool kids in school.
